Industrial Accident Occurs Near Disney and Causes the Death of a Worker
According to WFTV 9, the recent deadly accident that resulted in the death of a worker occurred when two employees were working at the Harvest Power energy facility. The facility is located at Reedy Creek, which is near Western Way and which is close to both Cast Connection and Property Control.
The incident occurred when the two workers were emptying oil and grease byproducts. They were moving the oil and grease from a semi-truck to a large vat at the Harvest Power energy facility. The facility is also very close to Animal Kingdom in Disney, WFTV 9 reports.
One of the two workers was standing on a grate as the oil and grease were being emptied into the vat at the Harvest Power facility. That worker, a 61-year-old man, ended up slipping and falling into the vat. The other employee who was also working and who was with the man at the time of the incident attempted to pull the victim from the vat.
Unfortunately, he was unable to get him out of the large container full of oil and grease. The 61-year-old lost his life as fumes from the byproduct overwhelmed him and he slipped down even further into the oil vat. Reedy Creek Fire responded to the scene of the incident and helped with recovery efforts as they tried to extract the victim from the vat.
The industrial accident was one of several that have recently occurred in or around the Disney area.
Deputies did not release the names of the victim to WFTV 9 as of the time of their reporting. Harvest Power did, however, release a statement describing the incident that had occurred as a “tragic accident.” The spokesperson for the energy company said they were “deeply saddened” by their co-worker’s loss and said that the company is working hard to try to figure out what happened.
