High School Football Player Killed in Tragic Crash

Aug 17, 2018 | By , on Personal Injury.

Car accidents can happen to people of all ages, but young people are especially vulnerable to becoming involved in motor vehicle accidents. In fact, car crashes are a leading cause of death for teens and young people are significantly more likely than older demographic groups to become involved in a serious or fatal car accident.

If you or someone you love was involved in a car accident involving a teen driver, or if your child or other young loved one was injured in a motor vehicle collision, it is important that you understand your legal rights and take appropriate action to obtain compensation for damages. A Miami personal injury lawyer can provide the help and support accident victims need to pursue a claim to recover money for economic and non-financial loss.

When a young person is injured or killed in an accident, it can be especially devastating – and costly – if a lifetime of medical care becomes necessary or if a young person passes on before having a chance to fully live his life.

Just recently, USA Today reported on one tragic accident that took the life of a promising young football player and caused another young volleyball player to suffer incapacitating injuries.

Car Accident Causes Fatalities and Serious Injuries to High School Students (and Adults)

According to USA Today, the high school football player who was killed in the recent accident was the son of a baseball coach at the University of Miami. The accident occurred in Miami Dade County when the football player was driving a Jeep that bumped into the median. Eventually, the Jeep struck a utility pole, causing the footballer to suffer fatal injuries.

The football player’s girlfriend, who is a skilled volleyball player, was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. USA Today indicates she was alive at the time of the reporting but had sustained serious injuries in the accident.  Both the football player who was deceased and his girlfriend had to be removed from the vehicle by rescue workers using the jaws of life.

No blood tests or toxicology tests were performed on the football player at the scene of the accident.  The incident knocked out power to a neighborhood in Miami as well as causing serious and fatal injuries.  The football player was 16 at the time of the incident and was described as being a great student, great kid, and great athlete.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation and it is not clear why the vehicle struck the median, starting the chain of events that resulted in the tragic fatal accident occurring.

When accidents happen, it is important to determine who was to blame for the incident. If a driver engaged in careless or negligent behavior, surviving victims can pursue a claim for compensation for damages. Family members of deceased loved ones can also pursue a claim to obtain wrongful death damages for the loss of the accident victim. A Miami personal injury lawyer can help in the aftermath of an accident to determine legal options available.
